Toyota Quantum Taxi Service Checklist for Fleet Owners
A Toyota Quantum used as a taxi works much harder than a private vehicle. It covers long distances, carries full loads and spends hours in stop-start traffic. For fleet owners, a missed service means downtime and lost income. This Quantum taxi service checklist sets out simple daily, weekly and service-time checks, and shows which Quantum service kits we stock.
Why taxis need a stricter routine
Toyota’s owner’s manual usually gives a normal schedule and a severe or heavy-duty schedule. Taxi work, with heavy loads, long idling, dusty roads and constant stop-start driving, often falls under severe conditions. Check your manual or ask your Toyota dealer or workshop which schedule applies to your vehicles, and plan services around it rather than waiting for problems.
Daily checks for drivers
These take a few minutes before the first trip. Give each driver a simple checklist to sign.
- Engine oil level on the dipstick, with the vehicle on level ground.
- Coolant level in the expansion tank, checked with the engine cold.
- Tyres: look for damage and obviously low tyres, including the spare.
- Lights and indicators: headlights, brake lights, indicators and hazards.
- Warning lights: any light that stays on after starting should be reported, not ignored.
- Leaks: look under the vehicle for fresh oil, coolant or fuel drips.
- Brakes: the pedal should feel firm, and there should be no grinding or pulling.
Weekly checks
- Tyre pressures with a gauge, set to the figures on the door pillar sticker or in the manual for a loaded vehicle.
- Brake fluid and power steering fluid levels, where applicable.
- Wiper blades and washer fluid.
- Seatbelts: every belt should latch and retract properly.
- Doors, especially the sliding door: check that it runs smoothly and locks properly.
- The air filter, if your routes are dusty. A blocked filter costs fuel and power.
At every service
Follow the intervals in your owner’s manual for your engine and operating conditions. At each service, these items are normally checked or replaced:
- Engine oil and oil filter.
- Air filter.
- Fuel filter on diesel engines, at the interval in your manual.
- Brake pads, discs and shoes, measured against minimum thickness.
- Suspension and steering parts, such as ball joints, tie rod ends, bushes and shock absorbers. Loaded taxis wear these faster.
- Drive belts and hoses, for cracks or wear.
- Battery terminals and charging.
- Wheel alignment and tyre wear patterns.
Quantum service kits we stock
Quantum engines need different filters, so match the kit to your engine first.
Quantum 2.5 D-4D diesel (2KD-FTV, 2005–2014)
The Toyota Quantum 2KD Service Kit (2005–2014) – Air, Oil & Fuel Filters includes Sakura A-5903 (air), C-1148 (oil) and F-1111 (fuel). Engine oil isn’t included, so buy the diesel oil grade your manual specifies separately.
Quantum 2.7 VVTi petrol (2TR-FE, 2005–2010)
- Toyota Quantum 2.7 VVTi Service Kit (2005–2010) – Air & Oil Filters: AF1762 (air) and GUD Z217A (oil), filters only.
- Toyota Quantum 2.7 VVTi Service Kit (2005–2010) – Motul 6100 5W-40, Air & Oil Filters: the same filters plus one 5 L Motul 6100 SYN-nergy 5W-40. Check that this grade is approved for your engine in your manual before ordering.
Neither 2.7 kit includes a fuel filter.
We don’t currently list kits for other Quantum engines or for newer models outside these years. If your fleet runs a different engine, send us the year, engine and VIN and we’ll check what’s available.
Tips for fleet owners
- Keep a service record for each vehicle. Write down the date, odometer reading, parts fitted and filter part numbers. It makes the next order quicker and helps when you sell the vehicle.
- Standardise parts across the fleet. If several vehicles share an engine, the same kit fits them all. That makes it easier to keep stock on hand.
- Keep a few kits in stock. A vehicle waiting for parts earns nothing.
- Act on driver reports quickly. A small noise or a warning light is cheaper to fix early.
- Check filter numbers. Before fitting, compare the new filter with the old one, especially if a vehicle was bought second-hand and may have had parts changed.
