Description
The Teknosa AU1410 rack end is the inner tie rod for the VW Polo 6R / Polo Vivo (2009–2014). It screws into the end of the steering rack on one side and carries the outer tie rod end on the other. When it wears, you get play in the steering, a knock over bumps and uneven front tyre wear.
Teknosa AU1410 rack end overview
A rack end is also called an inner tie rod or axial joint. It sits inside the rack boot, so the wear is hard to see until the steering already feels loose. Teknosa catalogues its steering and suspension parts for vehicles sold in Southern Africa.
Catalogue specification for AU1410: 14 × 1.5 thread at both ends and a listed length of 310 mm. Teknosa shows one part number for this position, not separate left and right codes.
Compatibility
Fitment below is taken from the Teknosa suspension parts catalogue (2022 V1):
- VW Polo 6R / Polo Vivo, front, 2009–2014
- Audi A1, front, 2011–2018
- Seat Ibiza (Mk V), front, 2008 on
The same catalogue lists more than one rack end for these models, with different lengths and threads. Before you order, compare your old part with the 14 × 1.5 / 14 × 1.5 / 310 mm spec, or send us your VIN or a photo of the old rack end and we’ll confirm. Teknosa doesn’t list AU1410 for the newer Polo 6C (2014 on) or Polo AW.
What’s included
- 1 × Teknosa AU1410 rack end (inner tie rod)
The rack boot comes off to reach the rack end, so check it while it’s off. If it’s cracked or split, replace it at the same time. We stock a universal steering rack boot; check that it suits your rack before ordering.
Signs it needs replacing
- Knocking or clunking from the front when you drive over bumps or uneven roads
- Free play or a vague feel in the steering wheel
- The car wanders and needs constant correction on the highway
- Uneven wear on the inside or outside edge of the front tyres
- Play found at the rack end during a service or roadworthy test
FAQ
Is a rack end the same as a tie rod end?
No. The rack end is the inner joint at the steering rack. The tie rod end is the outer ball joint at the wheel hub. They wear separately, so check both.
Do I need a wheel alignment after fitting?
Yes. Changing a rack end changes the toe setting, so have the alignment done straight after fitting to protect your tyres.
Does the Teknosa AU1410 rack end fit my car?
Teknosa lists it for the models above. Because these cars can use different racks, confirm with us using your VIN or your old part before ordering.
